You can save money by carrying out small changes in and around your home. In this article we look at how you can reduce your electricity bill. These are some very useful tips which will really help you in reducing electricity bill
Don't leave electrical appliances on standby
Appliances left on standby use up to 85 percent of the energy they would use if fully switched on. Many of us with use the remote to switch off the tv or stereo, leaving the appliance running on standby. This means the appliance is still using up electricity and wastes a considerable amount of energy. By switching off at the main power button, or even the socket, you can save both energy and money.
Reduce Electricity Bill on lightening
In most homes, about 10-15 Percent of the electricity bill is for lighting. Use energy saving light bulbs to cut your costs considerably. CFL's use up to 75 Percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer, according to Home Energy Saver.
For lightening in garden there are a number of different solar-powered lights available in market. These lights are highly energy efficient and convenient as they do not require external extension leads or special electrical fittings. These lights contain solar cells which convert the sun's energy into electricity. They charge up during the daylight and light up as it gets dark. They are not usually hugely bright but are less intrusive than electric lights and look nice in the flowerbeds.
Reduce bill on heating and cooling devices
Reduce bill on heating and cooling devices
A typical household uses the bulk of its energy for heating and cooling. According to the DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network (EREN) up to 44 percent of the utility bill is due heating and cooling devices.
Thus to reduce electricity bill, reducing energy consumption of these devices is very essential. Programmable thermostats can reduce energy wasted heating or cooling a house when no one is home or everyone's asleep.
Water heating
For water heating, use the sun's energy to heat your water by installing solar panels. This will save electricity and cut down your electricity bill considerably.
Refrigeration
The location of your fridge can make a difference in how energy efficient it is. Make sure it is out of direct sunlight and not close to the oven. It is best to keep it against an outside wall so that the heat it generates can escape easily, and always make sure that there are a few inches space all around the fridge so that air can circulate.
Air Conditioning
Use fans instead of air conditions, as fans use much less power for similar perceived cooling effects than air conditioners. Moving air tends to feel cooler, allowing for higher summertime thermostat settings. According to EREN, the effect is equivalent to lowering the air temperature by about 4 F (2 C), and using less energy than air conditioners in doing so.
