How to get Your Money's Worth for every Gallon of Fuel you Buy

How to get Your Money's Worth for every Gallon of Fuel you Buy A friend who works in a petroleum company gave me some tips to get more of your money's worth for every Gallon of fuel you buy. With Gas prices going through roof and with no signs of letting up, we could all use some tips to get our dollars worth! So keep these few tricks in mind the next time you go to fill gas.

Only Fill Gas in the Morning

Only buy or fill up your car or bike with fuel in the morning when the ground temperature is still cold.

Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the denser the fuel. When it gets warmer, the fuel expands, so buying in the afternoon or evening ...your gallon is not exactly a gallon.

In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of Petrol, Diesel, Jet fuel, Ethanol and other petroleum products play an important role. A 1degree rise in temperature is big deal for this business. But gas stations don't have temperature compensations at their pumps.

Don't Use the Fast Mode while Filling

When your filling up, DO NOT squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to the fast mode.

If you look the trigger will have 3 stages: Low, Middle and High. You should pump fuel in the Low mode to minimize vapors created while pumping. All hoses in the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping gas on the fast mode some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. So those vapors are getting sucked back into the underground storage tank, so you're less worth for your money.

Fill Gas When Your Tank is Half Full

One of the most important Tips is to Fill up when your Tank is Half Full.

The reason for this is, the more fuel your have in your tank, the less air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as a zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes evaporation. Our cars don't have that internal floating roof. So the less fuel we have the more air we have in our tanks maximizing evaporation. The less fuel we have in our cars the faster it evaporates.

Don't Fill when the Gas Station is Refueling

If there is a Fuel Truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy, then DON'T Fill.

When this is happening it's most likely, dirt that usually settles at the bottom of these storage tanks, is being stirred up and mixed into the fuel your are filling into you car. This dirt is not good for your car and will cause damage to the engine.

Hope these Tips help you get the maximum value for your money! And if you believe you learned something from these tips be sure to pass it on to your family and friends, so they can benefit from them as well!
