How To Save Money On Wedding Photography

Wedding photographs are moments captured in time and space that many people cherish throughout their lives. However, as we enter into a world of modern electronics and digital cameras, it has become important to know and to choose wisely. Some tips may help you in reducing the cost of wedding photography without compromising on quality.

Research. Wedding photography has formed a niche in the photography business and has improved to the point where you can opt for modern digital images or photojournalistic approach or you can stick to the traditional approach. The photojournalistic approach is expensive and requires skill on the part of the photographer. Conversely, the traditional approach is economical and uses traditional trends for wedding photographs. The best way to save money is to go for traditional photography where you limit the amount of pictures taken to the bare minimum.

DIY. If you are fortunate enough to know someone who is a professional photographer or pursues photography as a serious hobby then you can ask that person to photograph at your wedding. It may turn out to be free of cost. However, making sure that you have seen the person’s previous work is important to determine his aptness and professionalism.

The Digital dilemma. Digital photography is the modern approach towards weeding pictures. Unlike traditional photography, digital photographs can be downloaded on the computer or a CD and the quality of photographs can be altered and improved. However, digital photographs are comparatively short-lived and start fading after some years. This is the reason many people opt for the traditional approach rather than using digital technology. Having said that, it cannot be denied that digital photography is cheaper and can be reproduced if the quality fades after some years.

Students of photography. Many colleges and universities have photography in their curriculum and students are eager and willing to provide their service, as this increases their experience and improves their professional portfolio. They may even do it for free. Contacting the art department of any nearest university or college may just click it for you.

The photographer. Wedding photography is a specialization and a branch of photography. This means that wedding photographers usually charge a higher amount compared to traditional photographers. One way of saving money is opting for a professional but avoiding a wedding photographer. Many local newspapers (especially in small towns) have freelance photographers who are looking for work. These are a cheaper alternative compared to their professional counterparts.

The Internet. The internet is a good platform to find your wedding photographer at economical prices. Community forums such as Craiglist.org can be used for advertising. You are likely to find students of photography and amateurs who are willing to lend their services at an affordable price.

The timing. The timing is also an important factor that influences the budget of your wedding as well as wedding photographs. Early summer and late springs are a prime time for weddings and so are Saturdays. If you plan to hire a professional photographer then the chances are that you may end up paying more. Avoiding weddings during these periods will save money on photography as well as on the wedding itself.

Avoid extended contracts. If you can limit the professional photography for only the ceremony, then it can save some money. Other photographs before and after the ceremony can be taken by someone in the family. This way you can ensure professional quality for ceremonial photographs and save money on photos of other events. Many professional photographers charge a flat fee and then charge an hourly rate. Since the ceremony is the shortest and the most important event, you will save money without compromising on quality for those crucial moments.
