Make that call:
Once you've found out about a better offer, don't cancel your current cable subscription right away. Simply call them up to let them know that you have discovered a better deal. Ask them if they can offer the same price. Don't gloat, threaten or be rude - this is a business transaction. You have a good bargaining position and don't need to be ballistic. Just ask them if they can match the price. If they want to keep you as a subscriber, they will give you a better deal.

This is a good strategy to use especially if you're calling to lower your monthly cable rate for the first time. If you've been doing this a lot, your cable company might be a little strict on you.

What you can save:
If you're paying for about $80 for cable TV, for example, making one simple call can probably lower your monthly cable bill by $10 to $25. Try multiplying that by 12 months and you'll be able to save anywhere from $120 to $300. The cable company might even throw in one or two months for free. Think of all that money you can save because of one simple phone call.

Make the switch:
This is a move you should do if your cable company won't budge and you're completely unhappy about their service. If the new offer can give you a similar service (or exactly the same), there's no point staying with your current cable company. Make that switch and start saving money on cable immediately.
