Ethanol which is also called ethyl alcohol is a type of alcohol that can be used as an alternative energy source; especially for powering automobiles. The use of ethanol was even advocated by Henry Ford in the prohibition era and it still continues to be a debatable subject among environmentalists and politicians alike. There are numerous advantages of using such a renewable source of energy; however there are drawbacks that cannot be ignored. Even though ethanol is being used in many countries, oil and other fossil fuels are still being consumed in a much larger amount.
