Federal taxation in the United States is the taxation by the Federal government of the United States which is a concurrent power of states as well as the federal government. This means that both the state and the Federal government have similar powers they can exercise; however these are not shared but are those that both entities have in common. The Federal tax code is administered by the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) which is a bureau of the treasury.
